Fylde Council Unveils Striking ‘Prairie Style’ Planting at Lytham Assembly Rooms
Fylde Council has completed a full redesign and replanting of the garden beds at the Assembly Rooms on Dicconson Terrace, delivering a colourful new ‘prairie style’ scheme that celebrates the landmark building and is built to thrive in coastal conditions.
Since Lytham Town Trust took over the lease of the Assembly Rooms, Fylde Council has maintained the beds - traditionally using bulbs in winter and seasonal bedding in summer. Activity slowed during the Covid period and momentum was lost. In May 2024, the Council proposed a comprehensive refresh; that proposal has now come to fruition with a resilient, wildlife-friendly planting palette of perennials selected to withstand the seaside environment and harsher weather.
Early results are already evident, with vibrant colour and texture setting off the Assembly Rooms’ historic façade. Lytham Town Trust extends sincere thanks to Fylde Council for the investment of time and expertise that has transformed the approach to the site’s planting.
Cllr Tim Ashton welcomed the improvements, saying:
“I thought I'd drop you a line to say how good the gardens look at front and side of the Assembly Rooms. The recent rainfall will do them a world of good. My Dad would have been so pleased.”
