Lytham Town Trust Pays Tribute
Lytham Town Trust has posthumously recognised the extraordinary contribution of Frank Edwin Roe, CBE, former Managing Director of BAe Military Aircraft Division and a founding member of the Trust, for his pivotal role in securing Lytham Hall and its parklands for the community.
In 1996, under Frank’s leadership, the Trust sought and secured a £1 million donation from BAe Military Aircraft Division, enabling the purchase of Lytham Hall and its 78 acres of surrounding land. This historic act safeguarded one of Lancashire’s finest Georgian houses for future generations, ensuring its continued role as a centre for culture, leisure, and community life.
Today, Lytham Hall is a vibrant destination offering group tours, weddings, live music events, fine dining, and a welcoming café, all set within four centuries of history and picturesque parklands.
Ahead of his time, Frank recognised the importance of corporate responsibility and the value of businesses giving back to their communities. His foresight has now been formally acknowledged with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque at Lytham Hall, located near the café. Members of Frank’s family attended the unveiling to accept the honour on his behalf, following his passing in 2014.
David Gill, Chairman of Lytham Town Trust, said:
“This was a very special and long overdue moment for the Hall. Frank’s foresight in keeping these important buildings alive and available for the people of Lytham has meant that the Hall has become an attractive destination for days out and events. We’re so pleased that Frank’s work and dedication to Lytham Hall, since its purchase in 1996, is finally being recognised and that locals can learn more about Frank on their next visit.”
The plaque stands as a lasting tribute to Frank’s vision, dedication, and his belief in the importance of preserving heritage for the benefit of the community.
