A Journey Through Time
The story of Lytham Hall begins in the 12th century, when the site was home to a Benedictine priory. After the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the land changed hands until 1606, when Sir Cuthbert Clifton acquired it and built a Jacobean manor. Between 1752 and 1764, Thomas Clifton commissioned architect John Carr of York to create the elegant Palladian-inspired house that stands today, a lasting symbol of the family’s legacy and Georgian grandeur.
Restoration & Recognition
The Hall is now managed by the Heritage Trust for the North West, a Building Preservation Trust registered with the Architectural Heritage Fund, under a 99-year lease from the Lytham Town Trust. This partnership ensures that the Hall and its grounds are safeguarded for future generations, combining expert conservation with community involvement.
In 2022, Lytham Hall was proud to be named joint winner of the Historic Houses Restoration Award, a prestigious honour sponsored by Sotheby’s. Established in 2008, the award celebrates outstanding achievements in the repair and conservation of historic buildings across the UK, recognising the dedication of those who preserve the nation’s heritage. For Lytham Hall, the accolade highlights not only the quality of restoration work but also the passion and commitment of all those involved in its revival.
